Coaches constantly ask this of their cyclists. To improve your cycling the goal of the pedal stroke is smooth, round, powerful circles. PowerCranks force you to do this because if you don't, the cranks simply will not go around or stay at 180º as you expect.
Cyclists have traditionally used isolated leg training (one legged pedaling) to learn proper pedaling technique. The problem with this approach is one never does it enough to really train those muscles for a 6 hour effort and the cyclist is ignoring the two legged coordination when doing so. With PowerCranks, your power will always be forward and more tangential to the pedaling circle whether you are pedaling with one leg or two.
This change results in two big benefits for the cyclist. First, one is now routinely using more muscle when cycling which means they are riding at a lower percentage of their potential when cruising with the peloton, so they are resting more but they can invoke more muscle to attain higher powers when they need to. (By training more muscles the athlete will not only see more power but will also see an increase in VO2max.) Second, the changed coordination results in increased efficiency such that the rider is getting even more power for the same percieved effort. The combination of more muscle mass and increased efficiency results in huge power increases for most new users as these new muscles start to adapt. Most of our users will see an approximate 40% increase in power in only one season (this is 2-3 mph faster for most). Of course, the very elite will see somewhat less and the beginner can see much more, but everyone will see improvement that will impress them or they can send them back within 90 days for their money back. Only about 2 in 1000 do so.
