The PowerCranks™ Story Frank Day, an Original Ironman...
In February 1978, Frank Day was under the Oahu sun when the first Ironman Triathlon started. He crossed the line 8 th in that initial field of 15 competitors (only 12 finished). After inventing PowerCranks™ as part of an attempt to set the Human Powered Vehicle land speed record, it dawned on this Ironman that PowerCranks™ could be used as an athletic training device.
Frank's training interest in PowerCranks™ was further piqued by his documented 38% improvement in his own power after less than 6 months of use.
Franklin J. Day, M.D., graduated from the US Naval Academy with a degree in engineering; spent 5 years as a nuclear engineer/submariner; trained as a physician and anesthesiologist; and practiced medicine for 20 years.
Frank understands the physics and engineering principles of cycling. Dr. Day knows the science and medicine behind physiological conditioning, neuromuscular training, and operant conditioning principles required to break old habitual instincts.
Frank is an experienced runner and triathlete, having competed in numerous marathons and ultra distance running events (including the 72 mile run around Lake Tahoe, and the Run to the Sun (up Mount Haleakala, Hawaii, starting at sea level and ending at over 10,000 feet 37 miles later). > The PowerCranks Management Team
