PowerCranks™ Basic

This is our most popular crank. We estimate that 95 to 98% of the benefits of PowerCranks can be obtained from this model. The quality of the one-way clutch on this crank is the same as our most expensive model. The crank-arm is sold in 165, 167.5, 170, 172.5, 175, 177.5, 180, and 182.5mm lengths off the shelf. Special orders are available for longer or shorter cranks.

We can fit this crank to your road bike provided you know the type of Bottom Bracket and Spider. This crank also works with the LeMond RevMaster and Velotron stationary bikes (other stationary bikes are modifiable provided they have a standard Bottom Bracket and are chain driven).

This model is available with our "Dual-Mode" or locking option ($200) to allow the user to convert the crank into a "regular" fixed crank if you really need that option (we don’t encourage it). It is also available with a triple chain ring option ($25).

Model starts at $899

PowerCranks™, Basic adjustable

Rather than buying a crank-arm with a fixed length, we also offer this adjustable length crank which easily changes from 85mm to 220mm. Does this model suit me? Review some of the reasons athletes prefer the adjustable cranks:

  • You plan on doing specific drills that require different crank lengths for cross-training (as do many of our triathletes)
  • You plan to share the same set of cranks with other people of a different size.
  • You would like to identify proper crank length (most people are simply riding the cranks that came with their bike, which usually vary based upon frame size, but is that right for you?)
  • You are buying the cranks for young athletes who will be growing but you don't want to be buying a new set of PowerCranks as often as you have to buy them new shoes

The quality of the one-way clutch on this crank is the same as our most expensive model and many consider the extra weight an advantage since it is primarily used for training.

Dual mode (lock-up) option:

These can be easily turned back into regular cranks and PowerCranks mode by simply engaging or disengaging a collar on each crank. This is easily understood by watching the video that shows this in action. We try to discourage people from getting this as we see no benefit from ever training using regular cranks but there some very valid reasons to get them.

  • You are a coach and will be using the cranks to do fittings. Locking them up facilitates getting the angles you need
  • You are at a very high level now and have heard the stories about how hard they are in the beginning and are afraid of losing fitness. While this isn't really an issue for most you can't know if it is an issue for you until you get on them. If you need the reassurance that you can keep your mileage up and adapt a little more slowly if needed, in order to get on them, then by all means do so. Having it doesn't mean you have to use it.
  • You only have one bike and intend to race using regular cranks. In this instance we recommend you regularly practice riding regular cranks in the PC fashion. This option allows you to easily practice "racing" on regular cranks without actually putting regular cranks on the bike.
  • You will put them on a mountain bike and occasionally ride trails where the PC mode would be dangerous. This would allow you to lock them out for these sections of the trail

This option adds $200

We offer a 90-day money-back return policy. You will have plenty of time to see if PowerCranks are as good as we claim. Most people "know" within 2 weeks.

Your Responsibility
Bicycling is inherently dangerous. Always wear a helmet! While it is possible to ride PowerCranks™ in the same environments you ride a normal bike in (such as in traffic, etc.) with reasonable safety, it is your responsibility to ride safely in all situations.
