A few years ago I took up cycling to get back in shape. What started out as 5-10 mile rides became 50-75 mile rides. These days, I train for double centuries and brevets. Because I'm 6'9" and 225, I don't expect to finish ahead of riders who are younger stronger, and lighter, but I'm always trying to find ways to shave time of my rides.

When I'm not riding, I build software to help people who work with kids with autism. You can find my software at www.mobilethinking.com. You can email me if you want.

600K coming up
By Greg Olmstead | Published  04/15/2007
Contrary to my plans, I did not go out and preview the three loops this weekend. I figured that if I did that, I'd spend the next week recovering. I went for another short ride on friday to stay loose and limber and to get the blood pumping. I'll probably do a couple more of those this week to stay rested for the 600K.

This ride will be as much about planning as anything else. The ride is three different 200K loops; after each loop I'm back at the finish/start line where I can re-provision my fueling, add/remove clothing, etc.

If I complete the 600K, I'll qualify for the quadrennial 1200K Paris-Brest-Paris brevet this August. I'll check back in after the 600K, hopefully with good news.
