A few years ago I took up cycling to get back in shape. What started out as 5-10 mile rides became 50-75 mile rides. These days, I train for double centuries and brevets. Because I'm 6'9" and 225, I don't expect to finish ahead of riders who are younger stronger, and lighter, but I'm always trying to find ways to shave time of my rides.

When I'm not riding, I build software to help people who work with kids with autism. You can find my software at www.mobilethinking.com. You can email me if you want.

600K in 2 weeks

Today was the first day back on the bike since my 400K on 3/17. It's a little strange to be off the bike for 20 days. Between recovering from the 400K, a trip to NY and a minor home remodel, there's not much time to log the miles.

Today's ride was designed to be nice and easy and to let my legs get back into working again. I thought I had a nice easy pace going, but I made my best time from here to Solana Beach. Normally, it takes a little over 90 minutes, but today I was there in 85 minutes. And the trip back was just as fast. That's good news.

In one week, I'm going to preview the upcoming 600K. The last brevet of the season is a series of three different 200K loops. I'll do loop 1 on Friday, loop 2 on Saturday, and loop 3 on Sunday. The purpose here is to both get some miles in and to see (in daylight hours) what the course looks like and where the controls are. The weekend after that is the brevet itself, so it doesn't appear that I'll get a lot of miles before the big ride. Should be interesting.
