More offseason work with Powercranks
By Erich Schultze | Published  04/1/2008

Finally some nice weather in New England! I am happily back on the water after a long winter, meaning I have been spending lots of time in the boat and less time on the Powercranks in the past two weeks. However, even with sporadic once a week use, it is interesting to me how easily I have maintained my progress on the PC’s. My cadence was a comfortable 74 average for a 2 hour session two weekends ago, and I was able to settle in at a much steadier heart rate than I had been able to in the past. This past weekend I did a very steady, comfortable ride on the Powercranks at the same steady HR pace, meaning I am definitely getting more acquainted to riding them. Much like learning to ride a bike for the first time, the skill of riding Powercranks has been easy for me to maintain once I figured it out.
I have also noticed a major improvement in my speed and ability on a bike with “normal” cranks. When I use a non- Powercrank bike for warm up and cool down for my water workouts, my cadence is higher than it used to be and I can feel myself being more engaged throughout the pedal stroke. Even though cycling is not my first sport, I may even try to compete in a couple time trials or shorter races this spring. I feel very, very strong for this time of year. While the past couple of weeks have been quiet as I work on my form and position in the boat, I expect to be on the Powercranks more often (2- 3 times per week) throughout April. Happy Spring and enjoy the good weather!
