long breakaway and strong performance
Last week I've been racing my first stage race of the season. The route was quite hilly all days and I have been hearing answers from my body to the new adaptations.
Day after day the fatigue is accumulating and in the end you don't feel so powerful and fresh. Then that's when more economic and well trained riders come out.
In the last of five stage I entered into a 8 man break on a climb, averaging 468 Watts for the 7' where the attack developed.
It was at the beginning of the race and I had a team mate with me; he had a gap of only 3' from the leader in the GC, so I tried to pull as strong as possible to reach the finish line and with a good gap.
It's been an impressive ride with the group chasing hard the whole day.
We finally got caught by few riders with 10 kms to the finish, after being out for more than 150.
After the race I reviewed my power data and I was surprised of what I've done.
Normalized power for the 4h20' effort has been 330 Watts. The higher level for me for such a long ride.
My weight at the start was 67 kgs.
My climbing skills has definetely improved and I feel mountain is going to be a strongness rather than a weakness.
