Dezmin Wilder

Everyone calls me Dez, I live and work in Sacramento, CA and I'm currently racing xc mountain bikes in the semi-pro class. I focus on the longer distance events such as 12 and 24 hour events and generally ride a single speed. I am turning 21 this year and have only been racing for two seasons, but I'm in love with cycling and hope to one day ride bikes for a living. I am currently racing for the Cannondale/Bear Naked mountain bike team and I'm having a blast with it!

It's been a heck of a while
seriously though, i haven't bee in touch for days! A lot has happened since my last update, a couple of major holidays, my birthday, a new year, and most importantly, lots of good training hours on the Power Cranks.
I recently sent my cranks back to Andrew to have the lock rings installed so that i could ride my road bike with standard crank arms. This upgrade has really allowed me to actively recover while logging serious miles. I only really have one training bike and trying to ride the cranks day after day for 3-5 hours had begun to wear me out.
My only other option for riding was my single speed mountain bike, which isn't ideal for easy riding...So, i had the locking rings installed and now i can integrate 1-2 hrs of Power Cranking into my normal length road rides and get all the benifits of the cranks and still keep my mileage up without becoming burned out.
My overall fitness has improved since i got my cranks back with the locking rings because i can train at higher aerobic intesity on the normal cranks and still work on my strength and technique with the Power Cranks.
More recently though, my right knee has become a serious issue. It began to hurt quite badly on the just behind my knee cap on the top of my leg a few days ago and yesterday i was unable to ride because the pain was so intense. i'm confused because no aspect of my fit has changed recently and yet all of a sudden i've got issues.
The pain only started once i got my cranks back and was able to ride them as standard cranks again, so i'm wondering if perhaps the longer crank arm length is causing the pain. Not sure. I hope to figure things out soon though. I've repostioned the cleat on my right shoe and hope that this will alleviate the problem.
The fact that the pain is only present in my right leg leads me to believe that it is likely an issue of cleat placement. If it were an issue concerning some other component, it seems like the pain would be present in both knees...right?
Oh, the bad weather is here as well, i'll be moving to the San Diego area very soon for the more favorable climate.as a result of the foul weather, i'm taking forced recovery i suppose. i cannot deal with the indoor trainer for more than about an hour at a time and i can only stand the gym for so long, so....not happy.
More soon.
