Virgin voyage on the road
By Peter Bech | Published  11/24/2007

Yesterday I completed my first powercrank ride outside. I had planned to ride 1 hr and I´m glad I didn´t get too far away. The first half hour was the best part of the ride. The latter part was not pretty due to taxed core muscles and hip flexors which meant a fair amont of coasting going home. I had good technique going out of town but found it hard to keep the speed (and heart rate) down. I guess it´s because of the "new" muscle groups being recruited. On my next ride I want to focus on keeping the power down and control my stroke. I also tried to get out of the saddle a few times. It is actually pretty easy when it´s done going uphill. I got so comfortable with standing up that I could do it on flat roads as well. Not for very long, though! All of a sudden there´s no resistance and you just hit the saddle (or top tube) very hard....!
