So, I race single speed mountain bikes and occasionally a couple of my friends and I take our single speeds out on a fun little two hour loop to shake out our legs. Three of us went for a spin on thursday, all riding the same gear ratios on our bikes. Some pretty crazy things were happening. First off, I noticed that I felt no need to stand up in situations when my two training partners were hammering out of the saddle. Second, I cleaned a tricky little climb which I've only completed three times before. And third, at the very end of the ride, there's a flat half mile or so back to the house; now, the three of us were all riding the same gear ratio and i simply rode away from my two buddies, spinning gaster than I ever have before.
It's pretty impressive that I'm seeing such gains after only two weeks of training with Power Cranks. I'm having some work done to my cranks at the moment and so I rode my standard road bike yesterday, it was strange, but suddenly the frame felt like a noodle beneath me, and i was climbing in a way that I have never climbed before. I wasn't having a good day, heck, I'm home sick today with a sore throat. I can't wait to see what I'm capable of when I'm not coming down with a cold.
I plan to get a heart rate monitor and soon, just for kicks, I think I'll be impressed with what I find out.
