Dezmin Wilder
Everyone calls me Dez, I live and work in Sacramento, CA and I'm currently racing xc mountain bikes in the semi-pro class. I focus on the longer distance events such as 12 and 24 hour events and generally ride a single speed. I am turning 21 this year and have only been racing for two seasons, but I'm in love with cycling and hope to one day ride bikes for a living. I am currently racing for the Cannondale/ Sobe mountain bike team and I'm having a blast with it!

I have had my cranks for a few days now, but this is the first blog, so it should be about the first ride, right? right.

We got my PCs installed after work one night and after we all took turns spinning around the parking lot on them and laughing at one another because we all felt and looked so ridiculous, i loaded up my bike and headed home, looking forward to the next morning, when i would take my first real ride with my new cranks.

I left the house and headed for work, but i decided to take the long way, as i didn't feel to bad on the cranks initially. Woah there turbo! Once i had reached the point of the ride which was furthest from my final destination, i decided that i was an idiot and cursed myself for once again biting off more than i could chew.

My legs were fried! My hips were just done, not even tired or sore, just done, it was like they weren't there anymore. Every muscle on the back of  my legs hurt in a way that they'd never hut before. I'd only been riding for about an hour, but i was still at least that far from work!

I had no choice but to get back on the bike and start off towards work. My form was gone at this point, and with all the climbing behind me, and only  flat roads and descending (which is infinitely harder terrain to ride on Power Cranks) left, i limped along slowly but steadily. I most have been something to look see! Pedaling smoothly and evenly for a few hundred yards before one leg would overtake the other and i wouldn't have the strength or coordination to even out the stroke, so both legs would simply sink to the bottom for a few seconds time before i started the routine all over again.

I resorted to pedaling with both legs at once (more of a core exercise) when going down hills and by the time i reached the last little roller on the way to work, my legs nearly gave out on me. There was nothing left in my legs to pedal down the other side, so i just coasted into the parking lot and sort of flopped off my bike at the door to my shop.

What an awesome ride!!! It was quite possibly the hardest 30 or so miles that i've ever ridden. I was completely hooked and couldn't wait to ride home that evening. On my way home from work, i focused on pedaling a lower cadence in a big gear so that i could pedal more even circles for longer periods of time. I also started standing up on little climbs, which is a trippy feeling, but very do-able.

I got home that evening having ridden no more than 3 1/2 hours or so, and feeling like i'd been on the bike for no less than 8. I sat my tired little self down and didn't get up until it was time for bed. I was on line at the Power Cranks site though, and came across an interesting little tid bit of information......to be continued
