Tour Of Missouri Stage 5 (09/15)
By Darren Lill | Published  09/16/2007
Today was another decent length stage, 205km. It wasn’t as undulating as yesterday, and the first 50km were flat and fast, with lots of attacks. I was trying to get in a break without the KOM jersey being there with me, but in the end, he managed to make the break. I wasn’t about to drag the field across to the break, as I already had a team mate in it. It was frustrating, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes. One can’t mark every move.

Discovery Channel settled down to control the race, and set an easy tempo. Unlike yesterday where they kept the break inside of 5mins, today they let it run out to about 7mins. This meant that the sprinting teams lost interest, so no one tried to bring the break back until a Kodak Gallery rider was dropped out of the break with 35km to go. Kodak then got on the front and started a futile chase, as it was way too late.

All in all, it ended up being an easy stage for me, and I was able to relax and recuperate after yesterday’s effort. My team mate, Glen Chadwick who was in the break ended up 4th.

Tomorrow is just a flat 120km circuit race, and should end up as a bunch sprint, unless something really untoward happens.
