Tour Of Missouri Stage 3 TT (09/13/07)
By Darren Lill | Published  09/14/2007
Today was the 29km TT. It was very hilly for a TT, with some really steep climbs. On a few occasions I ended up in the 44/23. I set out to try and ride according to power, aiming to average around 350 watts. In the end I only managed 340 watts average, but this was due to my not being able to keep my wattage up on the descents.

I had a 54/11, but could have easily done with a 56 chain ring, as I was spinning out at around 80km/h on a few of the descents. Due to the extremely undulating terrain, it was impossible to ride close to a uniform power. All in all, I was fairly happy with how I went, ending up 8th. I feel the Power Cranks have made a huge difference to my time trialing, and I think that with a less archaic and lighter TT bike, I could’ve potentially gone about 30sec faster.

I prayed that God would give me good legs, and He did! I felt good throughout, although I think I did start out a little hard on the first few climbs. I decided before hand to try not to go over 400 watts on the climbs, but ended up doing so on a few occasions. Overall, I was pretty happy with how it went.

Tomorrow is a nice long stage, around 225km, and looks pretty hilly, so I’m looking forward to it. I’m going to aim to get in a good breakaway, which will hopefully go to the line.
